Abloy Master Key Systems: The Marietta Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Abloy-compatible master key systems in Marietta, with typical installed pricing from $340 to $620 depending on cylinder count and keying complexity. Most residential and light commercial jobs are completed same day, and we carry Protec2 and Classic series cores on the truck. Homeowners usually discover a problem when a sub-master key suddenly operates locks it shouldn’t, or when the grand master stops turning smoothly in one cylinder but works fine in others - a sign the master wafer stack is wearing unevenly.

Which Abloy Models This Applies To

Abloy master key systems fall into two series we service regularly in Marietta: the Classic line (displaceable disc mechanism, common in pre-2010 installations) and the Protec2 line (rotating disc with extended keyway, current production). The Classic uses a 1.2 mm disc spacing; Protec2 uses 1.5 mm, and the keys are not interchangeable between series. To identify yours, remove the cylinder and check the face stamp: “ABLOY CLASSIC” or “ABLOY PROTEC2” is cast into the brass. If the stamp is worn, measure the keyway width at the mouth - Classic runs 4.5 mm, Protec2 runs 5.2 mm.

We source OEM Abloy cylinders and keys through authorized distribution. Aftermarket equivalents exist for Classic systems (GMS and Ilco produce compatible discs), but we do not install them for master key applications. The master wafer tolerances in aftermarket discs vary enough that we’ve seen key interchange failures within 18 months. For Protec2, there is no compatible aftermarket cylinder; Abloy controls the key blanks through factory-authorized duplication only. We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Abloy, and we maintain factory-authorized status for key origination and cylinder programming.

Signs Your Abloy Master Key System Is Failing

Signs Your Abloy Master Key System Is Failing
  • Key works in some cylinders of the same master level but not others. The master wafers in the failing cylinder have worn to a different height than the rest of the suite. In Marietta’s humidity, brass wafers oxidize unevenly, and we’ve found this most often in exterior cylinders on north-facing doors where condensation lingers.
  • Grand master key requires jiggling or repeated insertion. The top master pin stack has compressed or the disc pack has shifted. This is progressive; once it starts, full failure typically follows within 6 to 10 weeks of regular use.
  • Sub-master key operates a lock outside its assigned hierarchy. A master wafer has sheared or fallen out of position, creating an unintended shear line. This is a security breach, not just a wear issue.
  • Cylinder feels gritty or catches at a consistent point in rotation. Disc springs have weakened or debris has entered the mechanism. Abloy discs rely on precise spring pressure; when pressure drops below 0.8 N, the disc does not return to gate position reliably.
  • Newly cut keys bind or stick where original keys do not. The cylinder has worn to match the old key’s specific edge profile. A fresh cut to factory spec no longer aligns with the worn disc gates.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Component Typical Range (Marietta)
Single Abloy Classic cylinder, rekeyed to existing master $140 - $195
Single Abloy Protec2 cylinder, rekeyed to existing master $185 - $260
Full system rekey (up to 6 cylinders, new master hierarchy) $340 - $620
Additional cylinder beyond 6 $85 - $145 each
Lost key lockout / emergency master re-creation $220 - $340

The range depends on cylinder count, whether we are matching an existing master or building a new hierarchy, and whether we need to order Protec2 blanks or have them in stock. Every price is quoted in writing before we start, per Haven Standard Clause 1: the price on the phone is the price on the invoice. The technician is not permitted to change it at the door. Work includes cylinder removal, disc pack inspection, new master wafer installation, key cutting to factory spec, and function testing across all levels of the hierarchy. We back it with the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

There is no safe DIY path for Abloy master key service. The disc springs are under compression and can launch if the cylinder is disassembled without a proper follower tool. More critically, master keying requires calculating shear line intersections across all key levels; one incorrect wafer placement compromises the entire hierarchy. You can verify the series (Classic vs. Protec2) and count your cylinders, which speeds our quote. Beyond that, the work belongs to a technician with factory authorization and the correct pinning kit. Call (762) 252-5919 and we’ll quote the full scope before dispatch.
